John Schofield
Hi John,
Just a short mail to say I looked at your Cargo web site with interest a few weeks ago.
I’ve always been mad on music and it’s definately rubbed off on my daughter who alerted me to the fact a blue plaque had been put up where the old studios where.
I’d no idea that so many influencial bands had played at Cargo. I knew messers Joyce and Rourke had recorded there but was shocked to see Joy Division had.
The band I was in as a teenager recorded there and I don’t think you’d been open long. The bands name was Sniper and we recorded there in early september 1978.
I still have the tape and mine was the rough cut version because I was away back to college the weekend we recorded, so it has the sound engineer speaking on it at times.
The quality of the recording still stands up and is testament to the expense you initially made and the time you spent setting the studio up.
I noticed you had a picture of a childhood friend Tom Zack who was Emerson, Lake and Palmer mad lol …I bet he still is.
Anyway John congratulations on getting the blue plaque up, it’s great to see an unsung hero getting some recognition for something that without doubt helped shape and influence The Manchester sounds, that have been so dominant over the past 30 years!
Kind Regards John ( Schofield )
