In 1978 Cargo Studios opened in Rochdale. A 16 track studio owned, built and managed by John Brierley. With John and second engineer Colin Richardson engineering and co-producing many of the bands the studio attracted groups from all parts of the UK and Europe to Cargo's unique live sound. Bands such as Joy Division, the Fall, OMD, DAF and many more turned Cargo into the UKs main indie studio from 1978-1984.
